First-time mom and fitness enthusiast Lala Dy Buncio successfully balances an active lifestyle with motherhood. She regularly teaches group boxing classes at Flyweight Boxing Studio and is also an indoor rowing instructor at Saddle Row. Lala also has her own online activewear shop on Instagram - @shopmachita, another testament to this energetic mom's commitment to living a healthy lifestyle. We spent a sunny afternoon with her and her adorable 2 year-old son Evan to take these photos and get to know them a little better.
How did you stay active and fit during pregnancy? "Luckily, my pregnancy was safe so I was able to exercise until the day I popped. I continued to do Crossfit and Indoor Cycling. I had to fight my way thru being lazy during the first trimester so I just worked out at home. On my second trimester, I went back to Crossfit and Indoor Cycling. Towards the last few weeks, I would walk for around 3 km at night around the village with my husband."
How did you lose the baby weight? "To be honest, I haven't weighed myself since my 3rd trimester ! I actually ate more than when I was pregnant because I was (and still am) breastfeeding. I just made sure to still workout three times a week and to SLOWLY but surely shed off the baby weight. I would walk, box, and row!"
What are your must-have items for the newborn days? "A breastfeeding bra and an Elin breastfeeding top! Strike anywhere. :)"
What is the best piece of motherhood advice you've received? "Tough one. Hmmm. The famous line that goes 'the nights are long but the days are short'. This holds true for me since I still breastfeed my 2 year old. It's the ultimate sacrifice I've done. I haven't slept straight through the night haha! But it's my way of showing my love to him."
What is the best thing about being a mom? "The best thing about being a mom is seeing the world thru your son's eyes. I get to appreciate the little things in life and realize how precious they are."
